Johann (6/11/1841-7/10/1886)                                        Sarafine Dyball  (7/10/1852-11/27/1927)

Johann was born in 1841 in Strelin (near Danzig) , West Prussia.

Johann (age 29) married Mariane Grena (age 17 ) on August 6, 1871 in  St. Michael Archangel, Catholic Church, Gross Starsin, West  Prussia (now Starzyno, Poland).  Witnesses were Joseph Jascke and Jakob Marshowski.

Note: Mariane and Johann were from the town of Klanin, which had under 100 people and had 15 houses at the time with Provincial Prince's Manor, which still stands and is now part of the von Grass family.   In 2006 it was opened to the public as a Bed and Breakfast.  Klanin, now Klanino Poland, is 1 mile from Gross Starsin (current population is under 400).

.

Johann and Mariane had 2 children, Martha Franciska and Joseph Johann.

On April 26, 1874 Johann, a widow age 32, married Saraphine (Dijball) Dyball, age 22.

Johann and Saraphine had five children of their own,  Julius, John, Anna, Otto and Theodore.  (A seventh child, Frank, was later born in Chicago).  The 1910 Federal Census indicates that Saraphine had six children, of which five survived.  This would indicate that she lost one child, Juliius, in Prussia and that her surviving children were John, Anna, Otto, Theodore and Frank.

They apparently migrated to America shortly after Theodore’s birth (2/14/84).  They came on the steamship America and the ship's manifest (ID#15998) indicates they arrived on April 4, 1884.  The family settled in the Bridgeport area of Chicago. Johann died on 7/10/1886. The death certificate shows John Henski (sic.) residing at 2568 S. Keeley Street.

The 1900 Census shows Seraphine and the five boys all residing at 3030 S. Lyman St.

The 1910 Census shows Saraphine, Otto and Frank living at 1217 W. 31st St.

In the 1920 Census, Saraphine was included with Theodore’s household at 3729 N Tripp Ave.

Her home at the time of her death in 1927 was 5341 S. Laflin St.

Note:  It appears from the source documents from Gross Starsin that the family name is Hinske.  However, different combinations of letters apparently mean the same thing in German.  Hintzke is just an alternate spelling.    Cick here to see Saraphine's Renaturalization Certificate from Prussia.  Click here for the translation.
